Contact us to register and confirm your seat. We verify any prerequisites, answer your questions, and send the schedule and location. Enrollment is not confirmed until we acknowledge it.
Individual tuition is due in full before training, and certificates are released once payment is confirmed. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, CashApp, Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, bank payment, and cash. Commercial accounts are billed net 30. For Alabama licensing you also receive a temporary license to carry while your permanent card is processed.
A government-issued photo ID, a notebook, and a pen. Wear closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing for outdoor range work.
For armed training, bring the handgun you intend to carry on duty and two magazines. You provide your own ammunition, and 9mm is the standard. Tell us in advance and we can arrange ammunition when a class is not at a partner range that sells it on site. We confirm the round count when you register. Eye and ear protection are provided at no charge. A holster and duty belt are optional, because holster draw is not allowed at the partner ranges.
New to gear? Ask us before you buy. We will help you choose safe, compliant equipment.
Alabama security officers are licensed through the Alabama Security Regulatory Board (ASRB).
Unarmed: the 8-hour Security Officer Basic Training and a written exam at 70% or higher.
Armed: the unarmed course first, then 4 hours of armed classroom plus a live-fire qualification. The armed initial path is 12 classroom hours plus range qualification.
Alabama uses a paper packet, there is no online portal. We can assemble it, notarize it, include the fee, and mail it for you, and you carry a temporary license while your card is processed. If your employer or agency submits its own packets, we provide your training certificates and qualification documentation instead.
Your ASRB packet includes a 10-year employment history with any gaps, a 10-year address history, a copy of your ID, two passport photos, and, for new and renewal applications, two FD-258 fingerprint cards. Armed applicants include a copy of a valid pistol permit. An armed upgrade or amendment does not require fingerprint cards.
ASRB state fees are pass-through and are never discounted: license application $112, late renewal $25, and an amendment or upgrade $10. Most students reimburse us for the $112 so we can include it and submit the same day as class.
You qualify with the handgun you intend to carry. The course of fire is 30 rounds on an FBI Q silhouette, 12 rounds at 3 yards, 12 at 7 yards, and 6 at 15 yards. You pass at 80%, which is 24 of 30 hits fully inside the silhouette. Only hits completely inside the silhouette count. We have 9mm loaners available, and you qualify with your duty caliber if you carry something other than 9mm. Armed officers must hold a valid pistol permit and carry it on duty.
An Alabama license is valid for two years. Renew it within the 60-day window before it expires, not earlier than 60 days out, with the Board preferring about 30 days before. A renewal that reaches the Board late without the $25 late fee is returned, and a license expired more than two years is handled as a new application. We help you time it so your card never lapses.
Full course prices below. Military, law enforcement, and first responders qualify for a discount on tuition over $100, and commercial and agency rates are available on request. The ASRB state fees are separate and are never discounted.
